FAQ

Database questions, answered.

Straight answers to what clients ask before choosing a technology.

SQL or NoSQL: which does our project need?

SQL databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL suit structured data with clear relationships, like orders, users and invoices. NoSQL databases such as MongoDB suit flexible or rapidly changing data. Many products use one of each.

MySQL or PostgreSQL?

Both are reliable and free. PostgreSQL has richer features for complex queries, JSON and data integrity. MySQL is simple, widespread and the default for many platforms such as WordPress. We recommend based on your application.

When do SQL Server or Oracle make sense?

Usually when your organisation already runs on Microsoft or Oracle systems, or needs their specific enterprise tools and support. For new products, open-source databases are often more cost-effective.

Is SQLite good enough for production?

For mobile apps, embedded tools and small, read-heavy sites, yes. It’s fast and needs no server. For many simultaneous users writing data, a server database like PostgreSQL is a better fit.

How should our database be backed up?

With automated daily backups at minimum, point-in-time recovery for important systems, copies stored in a separate location, and regular test restores to prove the backups actually work.

Can you design a database for a new product?

Yes. We model your data, relationships and indexes around how the product will actually be used, so it stays fast and easy to extend as features are added.

Can you connect reporting or BI tools to our database?

Yes. We set up read-only access, reporting views or a separate analytics database so dashboards in tools like Power BI, Looker Studio or Metabase don’t slow down your live application.
