Data mapping

Where everything ends up in Shopify.

Every item in your BigCommerce store has a place in Shopify. This is how we map it.

In BigCommerceIn ShopifyHow we handle it
Products & variant options Products & variants Options mapped to Shopify options
Modifiers (text, checkbox …) Line item properties or an options app Planned in the audit so nothing is lost
Categories Collections Category tree rebuilt as collections and menus
Brands Vendor or metafield Brand pages rebuilt as collections
Customer groups Customer tags or B2B companies Group pricing on Shopify Plus B2B
Customers Customers Account invite email to set a new password
Orders Order history Imported as past orders
Coupons Discounts Recreated with the same codes
BigCommerce options and modifiers do not map one-to-one to Shopify variants. We plan the mapping first and test it on a sample of your products, so nothing is lost.

Migration FAQ

BigCommerce to Shopify questions.

How do I move from BigCommerce to Shopify?

Audit your BigCommerce store and data, map products, options, categories, customers, orders and URLs to Shopify, build and test the new store on a copy, set up 301 redirects, then import the latest orders and switch the domain on launch day. Your BigCommerce store keeps selling until the switch.

What data can be migrated?

Products with their options and modifiers, categories (as collections), customers and addresses, order history, brands (as vendors or metafields), blog posts and web pages. Customer passwords cannot be copied on any platform, so customers set a new one after the move.

How do I keep my rankings?

Not if redirects are done properly. We map every old URL (products, categories, pages, blog posts) to its new Shopify URL with 301 redirects, keep your page titles and descriptions, and watch Google Search Console after launch.

Can customers keep their passwords?

No platform can copy passwords, because they are stored encrypted. Customer accounts and order history move over, and customers set a new password from an account invite email or the next time they log in. We plan that message with you.

Will the store go offline during the move?

No. Your BigCommerce store keeps selling while we build the Shopify store. On launch day we import the latest orders and customers and switch the domain, usually with only minutes of change-over.

How long does a migration take?

Most take 4–10 weeks, depending on the number of products, custom features and integrations. You get an exact timeline in the quote.

How much does a migration cost?

It depends on the amount of data, custom features and integrations. We send a fixed, itemised quote after a free call. See our pricing page for how we price projects.
